About the Organizations
The Appalachian Water Watch alerts program and website have been created to allow local people in Central Appalachia to communicate with one another about emergency water pollution events. The program is a joint effort between Appalachian Voices and SkyTruth.
SkyTruth envisions a world where all people can see and understand the environmental consequences of human activity everywhere on the earth, and are motivated to take action to protect the environment. SkyTruth’s mission is to motivate and empower new constituencies for environmental protection. We use scientifically credible satellite images and other visual technologies to create compelling pictures that vividly illustrate environmental impacts and provide these pictures and supporting data to environmental advocates, the media, and the public.
Appalachian Voices brings people together to protect the land, air and water of central and southern Appalachia. We work with people in the region and beyond to defend Appalachia’s rich natural and cultural heritage by providing them with tools and strategies for successful grassroots campaigns. Since the impacts of coal threaten Appalachia more than any other single source of pollution, we are committed to reducing coal’s impact on the region and advancing our vision for a cleaner energy future.
